Favorite Sushi in Seattle
I've really enjoyed every visit I've had to Kamei. The place is always clean, and the wait staff are always friendly and very attentive. I am very happy I stumbled upon this place about a year ago. They've turned me into a regular! :)

Live bugs in food!
My family just returned from our first meal at Kamei. We had heard from several friends that it was great place, and were looking forward to finding a new local place for dinner on those nights when I don't want to cook. Shortly after our entrees arrived, a cockroach crawled out from my son's plate of chicken teriyaki! Another son, killed the bug with his napkin as it scurried across the table. Neither of my boys wanted to touch their dinners after this experience. The restaurant was crowded and we did not want to make a scene. We asked if our waitress could please come to our table. When she arrived, we showed her the dead bug and QUIETLY explained that it had crawled out from my son's plate. She didn't apologize or seem fazed in the least bit! She asked if he wanted to order something else! We politely declined...we had all lost our appetites at that point. My husband explained to the waitress that we didn't feel we should pay for the dinners that weren't touched. The waitress seemed irritated and said we would "have to talk to her mother about that!". A few minutes later, our bill was delivered by an older woman--we assume the waitress' mother and owner of the restaurant. The price of our son's meals had been removed from the bill, but they still charged us for the remainder of our meals. Nothing was said about the cockroach...which remained squished on the napkin at our table...the waitress hadn't even seen fit to remove it! Needless to say, we will NEVER eat there again. We would have appreciated a sincere apology...and for the entire meal to be comped. Now I wish we had spoken more loudly about our problem so that the other diners could know what we experienced! BEWARE of Kamei!

My Favorite Sushi Place in West Seattle
We love Kamei! The food is fresh and inexpensive, the family-run atmosphere is unpretentious, and the service excellent. I'd give it 5 stars if the daughter waitress would smile once in awhile...it's the only but obvious drawback.

Great Sushi, friendly servers
The outside of the establishment does not do the restaurant justice. The sushi is fresh, well prepared and tasty. I would recommend the red dragon roll. The presentation of everything is great--try it!

Hospitality, warmth, and most important, quality
My family and I have been going to Kamei since it opened. We are so pleased to have their family as part of our West Seattle community. Their fish is fresh, and their smiles are genuine. They get busy sometimes, especially now that people are discovering them, but it is definitely worth the wait to be served! I stake my reputation on it. Tell them the Woodmans sent you!

Overlooked Japanese food
Have eaten there a number of times. Great specials: curries, fresh tuna steaks, etc. Love the udon soups. Doesn't look like much from the outside but try it--very friendly staff.
