Not "All That"
The place needs a good hosing down, kind of dindgy. The sushi is pretty good, but over priced, the owner is an arrogant Jack- ass.

Not worth the money
I was not impressed by their sushi at all. I ordered the spider crab roll, and this is the first time I have ever seen the crab burnt. There was way too much mayo on it and I seriously thought about sending it back, particularly since it was so dang expensive. My friend got the tuna roll, which she said upset her stomach later. There are so many other places on California ave to go to. Try Azuma Sushi. Great service and just as good, if not better, sushi!

Worth it for the food!
Went recently with a couple friends. We got the Omakase (chef's choice). The food was excellent. The service was so-so - not rude or bad, just not really good. Any other place, I would probably hold it against them, there is no better quality of sushi than that of Mashiko, so I'll let them slide on the service aspect. I find that sitting at the sushi bar is much more fun and you get excellent service compared to the table service.

my favorite place to go out to eat
this is a very good place for sushi. the best i've had, everything is delicious and very fresh, creative, willing to make new things and have good suggestions if your not sure what you want.

Too Expensive!
Good sushi but not worth the money. There are other sushi places on California that are just as good and not nearly as expensive. Try Azuma or Kamei instead!

Went there for a nice family dinner on a not busy night. Good food, but not attentive service. We use to think it was part of its charm. We wont be spending our money here anymore. Maybe it is hard to train wait staff on how to make tips.

Still Crazy After All These Years
We've been going to Mashiko since it opened in our neighborhood probably 10 years ago. At the time you could walk in and get a table anytime of the night. Some of the current staff was there and have continued to offer a warm welcome each time we visit. We like to tell our friends that our six year old grew up there. He often gets looks of amazement from tables nearby when he eats shrimp heads and salmon roe by the spoonful! We've watched this restaurant grow into a bustling place where you have to arrive when the doors open at 5:00 if you want to guarantee your seat. It still remains our favorite restaurant after all of these years and we are willing to live through any ups and downs. Love the toys for kids, good music and ever changing art display! Sushi is inventive, fresh and delicious. You may pay a little more than some sushi joints, but it is well worth it. Give it a try and you'll be addicted too!

on the comeback!
after some really crummy service lately, Mashiko appears to be turning the corner. We went there last week, and even thought the place was busting at the seams with people, the service was very good. The sushi, as always, was top notch and worth every penny.
